HENRY

This was a custom paint project on a denim tote for a dear friend.  She wanted HENRY painted on her tote so she could have him with her always.  She cried when she saw this...I never know if that is good or bad...but, she loved it.  Painted on denim.  I love painting animals...I have many commissions like this....yours could be next!

PINK CAMELLIAS, by Dottie Martz, dottiefromvirginia

This was a re-work of an earlier painting.  I had to lighten  the foreground in the sun spots.  Sometimes you have to look at a painting for a long time before you decide to "fix" something!

WHITE VASE WITH YELLOW TULIPS

original oil on 9x12 Italian Archival Linen Panel.  I love painting tulips.  I usually paint them in one of my many Delft bowls, but, this little white vase was a new "find" and I had to use that.  The tablecloth was made by my Grandmother.

A PEAR-FECT DAY

I love painting fruit...it is so rewarding and fast.  This is painted on a 6x6 panel.(and I get to eat the fruit afterwards! )
I guess the easy feeling comes  from all those years of decorative painting.  We painted tons of fruit.  I will always prefer oils, though.

FIRST DAY OF "YELLOW TULIPS"

I hope I can paint these tulips before they expire. I did take photos, so I have that back-up even though I prefer live subjects.
The tablecloth was made by my Grandmother.

Five Paintings SOLD @ silent auction at Richard Stravitz Fine Art Gallery

Carol and I had a great time last night (Valentine's Day) at the silent auction  held at Richard Stravitz Fine Art Gallery here on Laskin Road. Five of my paintings sold....(the bottom two were miniatures.) The benefit was The Symphony Orchestra of Virginia Beach.  I also met two of my fans.  That was wonderful!  Usually, my paintings sell in a gallery and I never know who they are!

FALL CAMELLIAS

These camellias are called Pink Perfection and are my lovely fall bloomers.  It is right outside my front porch and is a very prolific bloomer.  I planted my yard so that something is blooming every month of the year...which is great for my painting!  It took several years to plant, but, now they are all doing well and getting older and bigger.

My daughter brought this home for me...it is the largest Magnolia bud I have ever seen!  I took 78 photos of it as it opened on my dining room table.  Every time I walked past the room I could see a change..and had to take a photo.  Magnolias are my most favorite thing to paint.

PERUVIAN LILIES AND LEMONS

original oil still life on 11x14 Belgian Linen

Just heard that this is juried in the WPSE (WOMEN PAINTERS OF THE SOUTHEAST) show for this spring in Franklin, Tenn.  This is the second year and I have been lucky to have been in both shows.

The old painted plate was my Grandmothers and had the same colors as the lilies. They were made for each other!

DAY'S END

original oil on 14x18 Belgian Linen

Somehow I lost my original blog..it just disappeared.  Now I am trying to create a new one.  Over two years of blogging is a lot to catch up on.   This is only #2!

I love sunsets and this one I was able to catch (I actually had my camera with me!)
My repertoire is varied...I love paint plein aire, portraits (animals and people) and of course, my favorite...still life.  I normally paint small paintings up 6x6, 8x10, 9x12 and 11x14.  I love doing commission work and can paint those any size.

Even though I won my 4 year scholarship to art school (1948) with watercolors, I now only paint in oils.  We (my daughter Carol and I) own HAVE BRUSH WILL TRAVEL a mural business.  Those we paint in acrylics.

My website:  dottiemartz.com  Please check it out...I have lots of paintings for sale.
